Short answer. Crypto Telegram groups are ordinary Telegram groups and channels run for a token, an exchange or a trading community. A group holds up to 200,000 members and a channel has no subscriber cap, per Telegram's FAQ. A crypto Telegram bot cannot message anyone first, and Telegram's developer terms require any Mini App with cryptocurrency functions to run exclusively on the TON blockchain.
Search results for crypto telegram topics split in two. One half is lists of channels to join. The other half is marketing offers: shill packages, key opinion leader (KOL) placements, referral bots, groups for sale. Neither half says what Telegram itself has written about any of it, and that is the subject here.
Every Telegram rule below is quoted from a Telegram page read on 14 October 2026, with the page named. Figures from outside Telegram carry their source and date. Where Telegram publishes nothing, the guide says so, which is the editorial standard applied to every guide in this library. Nothing here is investment or legal advice.
What are crypto Telegram groups?
Crypto Telegram groups are chats where token holders, traders and project teams talk, and they are built from the same three objects as every other community on the app: a group, a channel and a bot. Telegram has no separate product for cryptocurrency communities. The differences between the three objects decide who can speak, who can be reached and which published limits apply.
A group is a conversation. Telegram's FAQ says users can "create groups for up to 200,000 people or channels for broadcasting to unlimited audiences", and the API documentation caps a basic group at 200 members before it must be converted to a supergroup. A crypto telegram channel is one-way: the FAQ says a post there "is signed with the channel's name and photo and not your own". Most projects run both, a channel for announcements and a linked group for discussion.
The labels used in search describe purpose, and Telegram treats them identically. Telegram cryptocurrency groups for one token, crypto community telegram groups for a whole chain, a crypto market telegram group for price talk, a crypto trading telegram group that posts entries and exits: all are supergroups with the same 200,000 ceiling, the same admin rights and the same moderation.
| Object | Typical crypto use | Who can post | Published figure | Where it is written |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic group | Core team, moderators | Every member | 200 members at most | Telegram API, channels and groups |
| Supergroup | Holder chat, trading chat | Every member, within admin permissions | "up to 200,000 members" | Telegram FAQ |
| Channel | Announcements, signals, news | Admins only | "an unlimited number of subscribers" | Telegram FAQ |
| Bot | Verification, price alerts, support, wallets | Replies to users who started it | "about 30 messages per second" for bulk notifications | Bots FAQ |
| Mini App | Games, token launches, wallets | Runs inside a bot | TON blockchain only for cryptocurrency functions | Bot Platform developer terms, section 7 |
Size is rarely the constraint for crypto telegram groups. Telegram's privacy policy puts the service at "more than 1 billion users", and the same sentence calls that number "a lucrative target for spammers". A crypto trading community telegram chat of 3,000 real members faces that spam problem long before it meets a member cap.
How to use Telegram for cryptocurrency projects
How to use Telegram for cryptocurrency work comes down to four surfaces, each with its own written rules: a channel for announcements, a group for discussion, a bot for anything automated, and Telegram Ads for paid reach. A project that knows which surface a task belongs to avoids most of the account restrictions that follow from doing the task on the wrong one.
Announcements belong in the channel, because channel posts reach every subscriber without a per-recipient limit. Discussion belongs in the group. Individual contact belongs to the bot, and only for people who pressed Start. Telegram crypto trading communities add a fifth habit that Telegram does not provide for at all: private messages from a personal account to members found in someone else's chat.
"Please only contact people if you're sure that they are expecting messages from you. The same applies to adding people to unwanted groups and channels."Telegram Spam FAQ, telegram.org/faq_spam
That fifth habit is where most trouble starts for crypto telegram groups. The Spam FAQ says of private messages that "it really doesn't matter what you send, as long as the receivers find it unwelcome", and gives "an invite link or a simple 'hello'" as examples. A first limitation lasts "a few days or so" in the FAQ's words, and no longer schedule is published. The detail sits in the guide to the restriction that leaves an account able to message mutual contacts only.
How to create a crypto Telegram group
How to create a crypto telegram group takes minutes in the app: New Group, a name, one first member, then a public username or an invite link. The work that decides whether the group survives its first promotion is the configuration done before the link is shared. Six settings carry most of that work in crypto telegram groups, and each corresponds to something Telegram documents.
- Pair the group with a channel. Link the group as the channel's discussion chat so announcements stay readable while the conversation moves.
- Turn on two-step verification for every owner and admin account. Telegram's API will not transfer ownership of a group or channel from an account without it, and a stolen admin session is one way a community changes hands without a sale.
- Restrict what new members can send. The Bot API's chat permissions include separate switches for media, polls, link previews and inviting other users, so ordinary members can be limited to plain text.
- Enable Aggressive Anti-Spam once eligible. Telegram's December 2022 blog post made the filter available to "groups with over 200 members".
- Decide who gets in. An invite link can require admin approval, and Telegram's June 2026 update added the option to "Add AI guardians to screen people before they join your groups".
- Name the invite links. The Bot API gives each invite link a name of up to 32 characters, and a join update records which link a member used. One link per campaign turns member counts into attribution.
Crypto telegram management after launch is mostly moderation and consistency. Admins remove impersonators, answer the same ten questions, and keep a pinned message that states the one fact scammers exploit: that no admin will ever message a member first. A crypto telegram bot added as an admin can do the repetitive part, within the limits in the next section. Announcement timing can be handled natively, as covered in the guide to scheduling Telegram posts ahead of a listing or launch.
What a crypto Telegram bot can and cannot do
A crypto Telegram bot is a program on Telegram's Bot API that answers users inside a chat: verifying new members, posting price alerts, handling support, or connecting a wallet through a Mini App. A crypto telegram bot cannot write to anyone who has not started it, sends at published rates, and sees only part of a group's messages unless it is an admin.
"Bots can't start conversations with users. A user must either add them to a group or send them a message first."Telegram, Bots: an introduction for developers
That one sentence rules out the most common brief a crypto telegram bot is given, which is to message the members of a competitor's chat. A program that does that is logged in as a user account, and Telegram's API terms page covers user accounts in harsher language: "If you use the Telegram API for flooding, spamming, faking subscriber and view counters of channels, you will be banned forever."
| Situation | Telegram's wording | Kind of statement |
|---|---|---|
| One private chat | "avoid sending more than one message per second" | Advice, with 429 errors after sustained bursts |
| One group | "bots are not be able to send more than 20 messages per minute" | Cap |
| Bulk notifications | "not able to broadcast more than about 30 messages per second" | Approximate cap |
| Paid broadcasts | "up to 1000 messages per second", at "0.1 Stars per message" above the free rate | Paid option; needs 100,000 Stars and 100,000 monthly active users |
| Reading a group | "Privacy mode is enabled by default for all bots, except bots that were added to a group as admins" | Default setting |
All five rows apply to any crypto telegram bot and come from Telegram's Bots FAQ and bot features page. The first row is advice and the second is a cap, a difference explained in the guide to flood waits and the limits Telegram enforces on sending. A price-alert bot that posts every tick into a busy group meets the 20-per-minute cap within seconds.
The TON-only rule for Mini Apps
Telegram's Bot Platform developer terms contain the only crypto-specific rules Telegram has published. Section 7 says "all Mini Apps which implement cryptocurrency functionality, either within the Mini App itself or within its connected bot, are required to be based exclusively on The Open Network (TON) blockchain". Wallet connections must go through the TON Connect SDK, with other protocols allowed only for bridging assets in.
The companion blockchain guidelines give examples. "Tokens and NFTs on other blockchains like Ethereum, BNB, etc. are not permitted" inside a Mini App, while "Promoting TON-based tokens in the official channel or community of a mini app" is permitted. Clause 7.4 extends the promotion ban to "paid Telegram advertisements and announcements via Telegram channels or communities managed by or officially affiliated with the mini app". Developers had until 1 February 2025 to comply, and existing apps until 21 February 2025 to move.
The scope matters. Section 7 binds Mini Apps and their connected bots. Telegram has published no equivalent rule for an ordinary group, channel or text-only bot that discusses a token on another chain.
What a Telegram crypto trading bot holds on a user's behalf
A telegram crypto trading bot executes swaps from chat commands, and to do that the operator usually generates and stores the wallet key. Telegram's terms place that risk on the operator: by "storing, handling or processing financial assets (including cryptocurrency)", a developer accepts "that it is your responsibility to ensure that any assets, credentials or other information is stored securely". Telegram adds that it does not "hold nor have custody" of users' funds.
Two incidents show the size of that exposure. The Block reported in September 2024 that the Banana Gun bot lost about $3 million from 11 users through a flaw in how it handled Telegram messages, and refunded them from its treasury. Revoke.cash records about $600,000 taken through a Unibot router contract on 31 October 2023. Neither loss involved Telegram's own systems.
Telegram airdrop referral bots: how a join is counted
A telegram airdrop referral bot gives each user a personal link and credits that user when someone new arrives through it. Telegram documents two mechanisms that make such counting possible: a deep link that passes a parameter of up to 64 characters to a bot on start, and named invite links whose use is recorded when a member joins a chat.
With a deep link, the address t.me/your_bot?start=CODE delivers CODE to the bot when the newcomer presses Start, which is both the referral record and the consent to be messaged. With invite links, the Bot API reports the link "used by the user to join the chat" in each join update, and a link can carry a member limit from 1 to 99,999. A third route exists for Mini Apps only: Telegram's affiliate programs, where anyone can "earn commissions on purchases made by people they referred", paid in Stars.
Every referral count in crypto telegram groups is also a target. Rewards per join invite accounts that exist only to join, and Telegram's developer terms forbid "MLM or ponzi schemes" and "Social growth manipulation" as bot use cases, along with "misleading users into performing certain actions in the pursuit of an unachievable outcome". The words "airdrop" and "referral reward" do not appear in the developer terms. Telegram has not published how those two clauses are applied to a crypto telegram bot that pays for referrals.
Crypto Telegram marketing strategy: what is paid for
A crypto telegram marketing strategy is a budget split across four paid things: content and moderation in the project's own chats, sponsored messages through Telegram Ads, posts bought in other people's channels, and KOL promotion. The first two run on documented rules. The second two are private deals where the buyer has to verify the audience and the law requires the payment to be disclosed.
Telegram marketing for crypto through the ad platform meets the ad guidelines first. The guidelines, as read on 14 October 2026, do not contain the words crypto, token or blockchain. Section 5.7 bars ads for "Get-rich-quick offers, pyramid schemes, multilevel marketing, including offers of investment with guaranteed return, claims on providing insider tips on investments", and section 5.11 bars "Social media growth manipulation". Approval of any single ad is Telegram's decision. Budget planning starts with the Telegram Ads prices Telegram has published, and a managed account is a separate purchase, set out in the guide to what an ads agency adds on top of the ad spend.
ICO telegram marketing, the 2017 name for the same activity, left a record that still applies. A token sale promoted through a group of 50,000 members says little if the members were added or bought, and the sibling guides on this site cover both practices. KOL deals repeat the problem one level up: the buyer pays for a channel's subscriber count and receives whatever share of that count is real. Channel statistics, requested as screenshots from the owner's own app, are the only Telegram-native check.
Sendhaus is on the documented side of that split. The channel growth and marketing work we take on covers content, ads and bot funnels for audiences that opted in, and the list of work Sendhaus declines includes shill packages, bought members and cold DM campaigns for any sector, crypto included.
Telegram crypto shill groups and pump channels
Telegram crypto shill groups are chats where members agree to post about a token elsewhere, or where promoters are allowed to advertise tokens to each other. Pump channels go further and coordinate a buy time. Telegram's rules treat the posting as spam wherever recipients find it unwelcome, and securities and fraud law treat coordinated price moves as manipulation regardless of the app used.
The academic record on pump channels is specific. Jiahua Xu and Benjamin Livshits, in a paper presented at USENIX Security 2019, investigated "412 pump-and-dump activities organized in Telegram channels from June 17, 2018 to February 26, 2019". Enforcement followed the same trail later: Fortune reported in October 2024 that US prosecutors charged 18 individuals and entities with crypto market manipulation after the FBI created its own token, NexFundAI, to attract wash-trading offers. More than $25 million in crypto was seized, according to Decrypt.
Inside crypto telegram groups, the consequence lands on accounts. The Spam FAQ says "Moderators are more lenient when it comes to messages in groups, but anyone who sends spam or unsolicited advertisments will be limited". Shilling at volume therefore runs on tooling rather than people, and the guide to what a Telegram shill bot actually runs on explains why that tooling is a user account under automation and which account takes the ban.
Three add-ons are usually sold beside a shill package, and each has its own page here. Target lists come from scrapers that copy a rival group's member list. Private-message blasts are covered in what Telegram documents about mass DM. Attacks on competitors are sold as mass report bots aimed at a rival channel, a product that rests on a claim about report volume Telegram has never made.
Paid crypto Telegram groups, groups for sale and numbers bought with crypto
Paid crypto telegram groups, ready-made groups for sale and phone numbers sold for cryptocurrency are three different purchases. Telegram documents a native mechanism for the first, a guarded ownership transfer for the second, and one specific number product for the third. Everything else sold under those names is a private arrangement with no Telegram process behind it.
Paid crypto Telegram groups and signal channels
Telegram's native paywall is the Star subscription. The Bot API method createChatSubscriptionInviteLink creates "a subscription invite link for a channel chat", and the period "must always be 2592000 (30 days)". The developer terms require that digital goods sold through a bot "be executed exclusively through the exchange of Telegram Stars". The Stars terms state that "All sales of Telegram Stars are final", with refunds left to the seller.
Most paid signal groups ignore that mechanism and take a transfer to a wallet, then add the buyer by hand. Telegram is not a party to that sale. Crypto tips telegram channels that charge this way offer no refund route inside the app, and a paid tip is still a tip: Telegram's ad guidelines class "claims on providing insider tips on investments" with deceptive financial offers.
A crypto Telegram group for sale
A crypto telegram group for sale is an ownership transfer plus a promise about the members. Telegram documents the transfer. The API method channels.editCreator, "Transfer channel ownership", fails unless the seller has two-step verification on, and returns an error when "The password was modified less than 24 hours ago" or the "session was created less than 24 hours ago". Telegram documents nothing about the audience that comes with the chat.
Members joined for the previous owner's topic and are free to leave when it changes. Telegram does not show a buyer which reports or restrictions a chat has already collected.
Phone numbers paid for in cryptocurrency
Searches such as "buy telegram number with crypto" and "buy virtual number for telegram with crypto" lead to two unrelated things. The first is Telegram's own product. Telegram's December 2022 blog post announced that users could "log in using blockchain-powered anonymous numbers available on the Fragment platform". Fragment describes them as numbers "not tied to a SIM card", says they "only work on Telegram", and states that all 136,566 sold out in December 2022, so each one now changes hands between owners for Toncoin.
The second is a rented SMS number from a reseller that accepts crypto. That number belongs to a carrier and can be reissued to someone else. Whoever receives its next login code can enter the account unless two-step verification is set, and Telegram publishes no assurance for accounts registered that way. Numbers bought in bulk for sending are the supply behind the practices in the shill section above.
Best crypto Telegram channels: how to check one before joining
The best crypto telegram channels are the ones a reader has verified, and no ranking can do that work in advance. Lists of the best telegram channels for crypto age quickly, and a list rarely says whether a channel paid to appear on it. Telegram publishes four signals that anyone can read before joining, and one blunt fact about who contacts whom.
- The scam and fake labels. Telegram's API marks accounts and chats "reported by many users as a fake or scam", and the invite preview carries the same flags. A label is a warning, and its absence proves nothing.
- The username, character by character. Impersonators copy the name and photo and change one letter of the handle. Telegram's FAQ directs victims of impersonation to @NoToScam.
- Views against subscribers. To take an illustrative case, a channel showing 80,000 subscribers and 400 views per post has an audience of about 400.
- Who is allowed to speak. A discussion group with links and forwards open to every new member will fill with offers.
The blunt fact is direction of contact. A sound community rule is that admins never open private chats with members, so support that arrives uninvited should be treated as a scam attempt. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center recorded $7.2 billion in losses to cryptocurrency investment fraud in its 2025 annual report. The report does not break that figure down by app.
The rules above Telegram's: paid promotion and disclosure
Telegram's terms are the lowest of three layers. Financial promotion and securities law apply to a paid post in crypto Telegram groups exactly as they apply anywhere else, and consumer law covers faked audience numbers. Three published rules show the pattern, from the United States and the United Kingdom. Other countries differ, and none of this is legal advice.
| Rule | What it covers | Published example or wording |
|---|---|---|
| US Securities Act, section 17(b) | Promoting a security for payment without disclosing the payment and its amount | SEC order of 3 October 2022: $1.26 million paid by Kim Kardashian over an undisclosed $250,000 fee for an EthereumMax post |
| UK FCA guidance FG24/1 (March 2024) | Financial promotions on social media, including by influencers | Unapproved promotion by unauthorised persons "may be committing a criminal offence" |
| US 16 CFR 465.8 (in force 21 October 2024) | Buying or selling fake indicators of social media influence for commercial purposes | Definitions list followers, subscribers and views "generated by bots" |
The UK's cryptoasset promotion rules have applied since 8 October 2023, and published legal commentary on FG24/1 reads the guidance as reaching invitation-only chat groups as well as public posts. A KOL who is paid to post in a Telegram channel is in scope of rules like these wherever the audience is.
What Telegram does not publish about crypto communities
Telegram's public documents leave six questions about crypto telegram groups unanswered, and every answer circulating online comes from a vendor or a forum. Naming the gaps is more useful than filling them with a number, because the numbers in circulation are the sales material of the tools they describe.
- No count of crypto-related groups or channels blocked. The safety page reports 27,742,322 groups and channels blocked in 2026 as of 14 October, with no crypto or fraud category.
- No threshold of reports that removes a group or attaches a scam label.
- No safe number of private messages or member adds per day for a personal account.
- No rule on tokens from other blockchains in ordinary groups and channels; section 7 covers Mini Apps and their bots.
- No review time for an ad that mentions a token, and no list of crypto categories the ad platform accepts.
- No statement on buying or selling groups, beyond the transfer mechanics in the API.
When a crypto Telegram group is the wrong tool
A crypto Telegram group suits a project whose holders already use the app and want to talk to each other. A group is the wrong tool in four situations, and opening one anyway produces an empty chat that impersonators fill. The decision deserves the same care as the token's other public commitments, since a dead group is visible to everyone who checks.
Sendhaus builds channels, opted-in bot broadcasts and ad programmes for teams on the documented side of these rules, and the scope of that work is listed under the Telegram services on offer. Sendhaus is an independent provider with no affiliation to Telegram.
Frequently asked questions
Are crypto Telegram groups safe to join?
Joining a group exposes a username and whatever the profile shows, and nothing else. The risk comes afterwards, from private messages offering support, airdrops or account recovery. Telegram labels some accounts and chats as scam or fake after many reports, but a missing label proves nothing. Treat any admin who writes first as an impersonator.
Can a crypto Telegram bot message people who have not started it?
No. Telegram's developer introduction says bots can't start conversations with users: a user must add the bot to a group or send it a message first. Software that messages strangers runs on a user account, and Telegram's API terms page says using the API for flooding or spamming means the account will be banned forever.
Does Telegram allow crypto projects on blockchains other than TON?
Telegram's Bot Platform developer terms require Mini Apps with cryptocurrency functionality, and their connected bots, to be based exclusively on the TON blockchain, with wallets connected through TON Connect. The compliance date was 1 February 2025. Telegram has published no equivalent rule for ordinary groups, channels or text-only bots that discuss tokens on other chains.
How many members can a crypto Telegram group have?
Telegram's FAQ says groups can have up to 200,000 members, and a channel can have an unlimited number of subscribers. A basic group is capped at 200 members in the API documentation before it becomes a supergroup. The owner cannot fill a group by adding people: the Spam FAQ treats unwanted adds like unwanted messages.
Is it legal to pay influencers to promote a token in Telegram channels?
It depends on the country and on whether the token is a regulated investment there. In the United States, section 17(b) of the Securities Act requires anyone paid to promote a security to disclose the payment and its amount; the SEC's 2022 settlement with Kim Kardashian cost $1.26 million. The UK's FCA says unapproved promotions by unauthorised persons may be a criminal offence. This is not legal advice.
Can I buy a Telegram number with crypto?
Telegram's own route is a collectible +888 number on Fragment, bought with Toncoin and usable only on Telegram. Fragment says all 136,566 numbers sold out in December 2022, so they are now bought from existing owners. A rented SMS number paid for in crypto is a different product: the number can be reissued, and Telegram publishes no assurance for accounts registered on one.
