Short answer. Telegram promotion means putting a channel, group or bot link in front of people who then choose to join. Telegram documents the free routes (a public username, search, invite links, shared folders) and one paid route of its own, Telegram Ads in public channels with 1000+ subscribers. Sending links to strangers is the route its Channels FAQ rules out.
Searches for telegram promotions come from three kinds of owner: one with a new channel and no readers, one with a group that has gone quiet, and one with a bot nobody has opened. Most guides hand all three the same ten tips without a source. This guide sorts telegram promotion by target and by cost, and puts the Telegram document beside each route.
Every figure below is quoted from a Telegram page read on 14 October 2026, with the page named, under the sourcing standard for Sendhaus Telegram guides. Where Telegram publishes nothing, the guide says so.
What is Telegram promotion?
What is telegram promotion? Telegram promotion is any activity that brings new people to a channel, a group or a bot: a link placed where an audience already is, an advertisement, a listing in search, or a recommendation from another chat. Channel posts go to subscribers. Everyone else has to meet the link somewhere first, so promotion on telegram always comes down to a link and a person's decision to tap it.
The word covers two things in practice. Promotion in telegram can mean promoting something inside the app, through search, ads, folders and other chats. It can also mean using Telegram to promote a business that lives elsewhere. Most sections here deal with the first meaning, and the second has a section of its own.
The short query telegram promote hides three targets with different entry points. A channel is promoted towards a subscription, a group towards a membership, and a bot towards a press of the Start button. The query how to promote telegram has three answers for the same reason, and the table lists what Telegram documents for each.
| Target | Entry point | Free routes Telegram documents | Paid route Telegram documents | Hard limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Channel | Public username or invite link | Telegram search, Similar Channels, shared folders, one link per source | Telegram Ads; giveaways of Premium subscriptions | The owner can add "the first 200 only" |
| Group | Short public link or invite link | Telegram search, invite links, shared folders | Not named as an ad destination: ad links must go to "a channel or bot on Telegram" | Up to 200,000 members; direct adds follow each person's privacy setting |
| Bot | The t.me/bot_username link | Username search, deep links, the Mini App Store, affiliate programs | Telegram Ads, payable with Stars the bot has earned | "Bots can't start conversations with users." |
Telegram promotions that last share one property: the person on the other end made the choice. Telegram's Spam FAQ describes the opposite case in a single sentence.
"As a general rule, people do mind getting unsolicited advertisements, links, invite links to groups or channels, random photos and, above all, anything related to commerce or online popularity."Telegram Spam FAQ, telegram.org/faq_spam
How to promote a Telegram channel: the routes Telegram documents
How to promote a telegram channel: make the channel public so that it has a username, prepare it so a visitor sees a reason to stay, then place the link where the intended readers already are. Telegram's Channels FAQ gives the method in one line: "you can post this link on social networks, advertise it in magazines, or tattoo it on your back."
The common variants of the question (how to promote telegram channel, how to promote your telegram channel, how do i promote my telegram channel) share that answer. The steps below run in the order a new channel meets them.
-
Get the destination ready
Telegram's ad guidelines describe what a promoted destination must look like, and the list works as a checklist for any channel. Promoted channels "must have both a profile image and a complete text" in the description, and a channel needs "at least one post published within the two weeks prior to review". A visitor checks the same things before subscribing.
-
Take a public username
"Public channels have a username. Anyone can find them in Telegram search and join", the Channels FAQ says. A private channel is reachable only through an invite link. Telegram does not publish how search orders its results, so a keyword in the channel name is a reasonable habit, not a documented ranking factor.
-
Bring the first 200 yourself
"As the channel's owner, you may invite the first 200 subscribers to your channel. Once the subscriber count reaches 200, the channel is on its own." Use the allowance for people who expect the invitation. The mechanics are in the guide to how adding members works and where it stops.
-
Give every source its own link
Telegram's 2021 post on invite links says admins "can also see which users joined using each invite link". A website footer, a newsletter and a partner channel can each carry a separate link. For channels of a certain size the statistics add two graphs, named
new_followers_by_source_graphandviews_by_source_graphin the API. -
Let Similar Channels and folders carry the link
Since 30 November 2023 a person who joins a channel sees a list of similar ones. "Only public channels appear in the list, they are selected automatically based on similarities in their subscriber bases." A shared folder is the documented form of cross-promotion: since 21 April 2023 several chats can sit behind one folder link, and "With one tap, they will add the folder and instantly join all its chats."
-
Post when you said you would
Promotion brings a visitor once. Whether the visitor stays depends on the next posts, and the native tools for queuing them are covered in the guide to scheduling Telegram posts and messages.
The owner who asks how can i promote my telegram channel, or how to promote my telegram channel, is often at step four without knowing it: links are out, and nothing says which one worked. The best way to promote telegram channel content is the one the per-link numbers confirm, and that differs by topic.
Requests phrased as promote my telegram channel or promote your telegram channel tend to expect a single trick. Promotion telegram channel advice that names one universal winner has no Telegram data behind it, because Telegram publishes none.
How to promote a Telegram channel for free
How to promote telegram channel for free: use the routes that cost time instead of money. A public username, Telegram search, invite links, shared folders and a link on every property the owner already controls are all free. Free telegram promotion stops being free in one place only, when a link is sent to strangers and the sending account pays with a spam limit.
| Free route | What Telegram documents | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Link on your site, newsletter, social profiles and packaging | Channels FAQ: "you can post this link on social networks" | Reaches only the audience already held elsewhere |
| Telegram search | "Anyone can find them in Telegram search and join" | The ordering of results is not published |
| Similar Channels | Public channels "selected automatically" | Cannot be requested or bought |
| Shared folder with partner channels | A folder can include "any public chats", plus chats where its creator has the admin right to add people | Works only when the partners' readers overlap |
| Mentions swapped with another channel | Admins "may publish their own content featuring third-party promotions" | No Telegram statistics stand behind the swap |
| Helping in topic groups, link in your profile | Moderators "are more lenient when it comes to messages in groups" | "anyone who sends spam or unsolicited advertisments will be limited" |
Every phrasing of the request lands on that table: how to promote telegram channel free, how to promote your telegram channel for free, how to promote my telegram channel for free and how can i promote my telegram channel for free. The shorter forms promote my telegram channel free and promote telegram channel free do too. The answer does not change with the wording, because Telegram charges nothing for a username, a link or a folder.
Free promotion telegram channel offers from third parties are a different matter. A site or bot that advertises telegram promotion free of charge is paid in something else: the owner's login, a required subscription to a list of other channels, or a place in a follow-for-follow ring.
"Please do not send channel links (or other unsolicited messages) to strangers. If they report spam from your account, you may be banned from contacting other people, however good your intentions."Telegram Channels FAQ, telegram.org/faq_channels
Where to promote Telegram channel links, and how Google fits in
Where to promote telegram channel links: wherever the intended readers already pay attention and a link is expected. That means the owner's website, newsletter and social profiles first, partner channels second, and paid placements third. Search engines are a fourth source, because every public channel has a web page at its t.me address that anyone can open in a browser.
How to promote telegram channel on google starts from that page. Telegram announced on 31 May 2019 that public channels can be read on the web without an account: "Simply open the channel link in a browser and select 'Preview channel'". The preview sits at t.me/s/ followed by the username.
A check on 14 October 2026 showed what a crawler meets there. The page for Telegram's own channel displayed the channel name, its description and a count of 9,338,691 subscribers, with the Preview channel link beside them. Neither that page nor the preview carried a robots meta tag, and a request for t.me/robots.txt returned a 404 error. Nothing on Telegram's side told search engines to stay out.
- The description doubles as the snippet text. The channel description fills the page's
og:descriptionfield, which link previews read. - Recent posts are the page content. The preview lists recent posts as plain HTML, so posts written in full sentences give the page words to be found by.
- A page on your own domain is easier to control. An article or landing page that answers the query and carries the t.me link can be titled and structured by its owner. A t.me page cannot.
Telegram publishes nothing on whether or how Google indexes channel pages, so no ranking promise can be sourced. A private channel has no username page at all.
Promote Telegram channel paid: Telegram Ads, paid posts, giveaways
To promote telegram channel paid, two markets exist. Telegram Ads is the official one: sponsored messages of up to 160 characters, shown in public channels with 1000+ subscribers, with a link that must lead to a channel or bot on Telegram. The second market is private, where an owner pays another channel's admin to publish a post.
Telegram's API documentation calls sponsored messages "a paid privacy-friendly way to promote bots and channels". The Ads front page says "Every month, 1 billion Telegram users generate 1 trillion views in public broadcast channels", and the getting-started guide sets the floor: "The minimum CPM for a sponsored message is 0.1 Toncoin." The front page read on 14 October 2026 names the payment currency as Gram. Placement is chosen by entering channel links, and guideline 4.8 also refers to search keywords "selected for ad placement".
Prices are collected in the guide to published Telegram Ads costs. Hiring someone to run the account is a separate purchase, covered in what a Telegram ads agency is paid for.
Searches written with a colon, "promote telegram channel: paid", usually mean the second market. Telegram's Terms of Service acknowledge it in the Premium section: administrators "may publish their own content featuring third-party promotions or sponsorships. These ads are not part of the Telegram advertisement platform". No Telegram review, refund rule or statistic stands behind such a deal.
Telegram promotion channels, meaning channels that sell ad posts, are found through marketplaces and directories. One marketplace's own figure, returned in search results on 14 October 2026, was more than 7,000 listed channels and groups; that is a vendor's claim. The best telegram channels for promotion are not the largest ones. A telegram channel for promotion earns its price when its readers match the offer and its numbers hold up.
- Views per post against subscribers. The statistics carry a
views_per_postfigure. The Channels FAQ notes that "Views from forwarded copies of your messages are also included in the total count". - Notification share. The
enabled_notificationsfigure shows what part of the audience has not muted the channel. - Where the followers came from. A source graph dominated by one unexplained spike is the mark described in the guide to what bought Telegram subscribers look like in the statistics.
Giveaways are a third paid route, launched on 6 November 2023 with the line "This is great if you want to promote your channel, get new subscribers or reward existing ones." The organiser "must pay in advance for the Premium subscriptions" and can make only new subscribers eligible. The Terms of Service warn that channels misleading users through giveaways later refunded with a third party "may be terminated or assigned a scam label and removed from Telegram search".
A paid post is an endorsement under US advertising rules. The FTC's Endorsement Guides, 16 CFR Part 255, say "The influencer and the advertiser may also be liable if the influencer fails to disclose clearly and conspicuously being paid for the endorsement." This guide is not legal advice.
How to promote a Telegram group
How to promote telegram group: make the group public with a short link, or keep it private and hand out invite links, then put the link where people with the same interest already talk. Telegram's FAQ says of a public group that "anybody can view the group's entire chat history and join to post messages", so the conversation itself is what a visitor inspects before joining.
Telegram group promotion differs from channel promotion in three documented ways.
- A group is not named as an ad destination. The Ad Platform guide says ad links "must link to a channel or bot on Telegram". The usual workaround is to advertise a channel and link the group from the channel's posts.
- A group has a ceiling. Telegram's Terms of Service list "group chats up to 200,000 members" among the free features. A channel has no subscriber ceiling.
- A group measures invitations. Group statistics in the API include
new_members_by_source_graphand atop_inviterslist, so an admin can see which members bring others.
For the owner asking how to promote my telegram group, the first members come from direct invitations to people who expect them. "You can add your contacts, or using search by username", the FAQ says. Beyond that circle the tool is the invite link, with admin approval switched on where quality matters.
How to promote your telegram group to strangers has the same answer as for channels: not by private message. To promote telegram group free, use the routes from the free table, which apply unchanged: a public link, a shared folder, the owner's other properties and a pinned post in any channel the owner already runs.
Telegram promotion groups: what a group for promotion delivers
Telegram promotion groups are chats where members post links to their own channels, groups and bots, under house rules set by the admins or under a subscribe-for-subscribe exchange. A telegram promotion group costs nothing to join, which is why it fills with promoters. The audience in a telegram group for promotion is mostly other people who came to post.
The pattern can be checked from the inside. Telegram's statistics API lists posters and viewers as separate figures for a group, and a room where the two numbers sit close together has few readers who are not also advertisers. Telegram groups for promotion and the larger telegram channel promotion groups built for follow-for-follow share that shape.
A telegram free promotion group delivers a count at best. As an illustration, an owner who subscribes to forty channels to gain forty subscribers has gained forty people who did the same thing for the same reason.
Automation makes the room worse. Scripts post one advert across hundreds of groups, a practice covered in the guide to how shill bots post across Telegram groups. The Spam FAQ leaves the decision with admins and moderators: "group admins can also report users who post spam in their groups". A real bot is capped as well. The Bots FAQ says "In a group, bots are not be able to send more than 20 messages per minute."
Telegram groups to promote business exist in a more useful form: topic groups, local groups and trade groups whose admins allow a listed advert or a weekly promo thread. Ask the admin, post once, and send readers to a channel instead of a private chat. A permitted post in one relevant group reaches readers. A hundred promo rooms reach other advertisers.
How to promote Telegram bot, and what a Telegram promotion bot is
How to promote telegram bot: publish its link and let people start it, because a bot cannot make the first move. Telegram's bot introduction says "Bots can't start conversations with users. A user must either add them to a group or send them a message first." Every route to a new bot user therefore ends in a tap on the Start button.
| Tool | What Telegram's documentation says |
|---|---|
| Bot link | "Each bot has a link that opens a conversation with it in Telegram", in the form t.me/bot_username |
| Deep link | A ?start= parameter "up to 64 characters long" reaches the bot when the link is opened, so each campaign can carry its own value |
| Description | A "short text up to 512 characters", shown at the start of the chat under "What can this bot do?" |
| About text | "up to 120 characters"; "When they share your bot with someone, this text is sent together with the link." |
| Mini App Store | Highlighted apps appear "for all users in the 'Apps' tab of Search"; they "are chosen based on how they enrich the Telegram ecosystem" |
| Affiliate program | Since 4 December 2024: "All Telegram users and channels can now earn Stars by joining Affiliate Programs launched by developers." |
| Telegram Ads with Stars | "You can use Stars earned by your TPA to place Telegram advertisements for that specific TPA"; "each Star in your balance is worth 0.02 USD in advertising credit" |
The Bot Features page gives the size of the audience: "More than 500 million out of Telegram's 950 million users interact with mini apps every month." To raise the chance of being featured, a developer "must enable the Main Mini App in @BotFather, upload high-quality media demos showcasing your app to your bot's profile and accept payments in Telegram Stars". Telegram publishes no further selection criteria.
Once people have started a bot, the bot may message them, and a bot's own promotion happens there. The Bots FAQ sets the free pace at "about 30 messages per second" for bulk notifications. Designing that flow is the work described under Telegram bot development and automation.
A telegram promotion bot is something else, and the name covers three products. The first is a posting bot an admin adds to a channel to publish and schedule, which is ordinary automation. The second is a telegram channel promotion bot that pays points or Stars for subscribing to listed channels, so every subscriber arrives for the reward. The third is a personal account behind a bot-style menu that adds or messages strangers.
Telegram's Bot Developer Terms list "Social growth manipulation" among forbidden use cases and say a bot "must not harass or spam users with unsolicited messages". The Bot API also has no call that places a person in a chat. Two neighbouring guides go through the calls: what a member add bot is able to call and how invite member bots work with links and join requests.
How to promote business on Telegram
How to promote business on telegram: build an audience that opted in, then publish to it. A channel carries announcements, a group carries questions, and a bot carries orders, bookings or support. The three pieces share one rule, since each reaches only people who subscribed, joined or pressed Start. Customers come first and strangers come later, if at all.
An email list, a receipt page, a counter sign and a website footer reach people who already know the business. Telegram's 2021 post on invite links describes a QR code for any link and calls invite links "a quick and easy way to bring 1 or 1 million people to your groups and channels".
Volume comes after consent. A bot may broadcast to its own users for free at "about 30 messages per second". Paid broadcasts raise the ceiling to "up to 1000 messages per second" at "0.1 Stars per message", for bots with at least 100,000 Stars and 100,000 monthly active users, per the Bots FAQ. That work is described under broadcast and bulk messaging to opted-in Telegram audiences, and the full range sits on the Sendhaus services overview.
Telegram promotion does not suit every business. An audience that is not on Telegram will not install an app for one shop. Consent law also sits above the platform's rules: in the EU, Article 13 of Directive 2002/58/EC requires prior consent for unsolicited direct-marketing messages.
Crypto Telegram promotion and NFT projects
Crypto telegram promotion follows every rule above and one set of its own. Telegram's Bot Developer Terms require blockchain features in Mini Apps to run on TON, and clause 7.4 says "Mini Apps are prohibited from directly or indirectly promoting cryptoassets that are not based on TON". The clause is written for Mini Apps. Nothing equivalent for channels or groups appears in the Terms of Service read for this guide.
The same terms carry dates. Developers had to comply with clauses 7.1 to 7.4 "by February 1, 2025", and existing Mini Apps on other blockchains had to move to TON "by February 21, 2025". For nft promotion telegram projects that run a Mini App, clause 7.1 is the relevant line: an app that generates or distributes tokens or blockchain assets "must exclusively use The Open Network (TON) blockchain" for it.
Paid ads have a different filter. The ad guidelines read on 14 October 2026 do not contain the words crypto, NFT or token. Rule 5.7 bars "Get-rich-quick offers, pyramid schemes, multilevel marketing, including offers of investment with guaranteed return, claims on providing insider tips on investments". Ad copy that promises a return fails on that sentence whatever the asset is.
Most telegram crypto promotion is sold outside the Ad Platform, as paid posts in call channels and as scripted posting in groups. The disclosure rule for paid endorsements applies to those posts, and Telegram has shown "a scam label for suspicious accounts" since its 31 May 2019 update. Securities and financial-promotion law differs by country and is outside the scope of this guide.
Telegram promotion service: what is sold under the name
A telegram promotion service is one of six products: managed Telegram Ads, paid posts placed in other channels, content and community management, subscriber or view packages, outreach run from personal accounts, and report campaigns against rivals. The first three bring readers who chose to join. The last three are the ones Telegram's documents name, and the buyer's channel or account carries the consequence.
| Sold as | What is delivered | Telegram document that applies |
|---|---|---|
| Ads management | Sponsored-message campaigns on the Ad Platform | Ad Platform Terms: an unspent balance "cannot be withdrawn", transferred or refunded |
| Ad-post placement | Posts bought from other channels' admins | Terms of Service: "not part of the Telegram advertisement platform" |
| Content and community | Posts, moderation and replies in the client's own chats | No restriction beyond the general terms |
| Member, view or reaction packages | Counters raised by accounts that do not read | API ID page: "faking subscriber and view counters of channels, you will be banned forever" |
| Mass DM or mass adding | Links sent, or people added, from personal accounts working through a collected list | Channels FAQ: "Please do not send channel links (or other unsolicited messages) to strangers." |
| "Competitor removal" | Coordinated reports against a rival channel | Spam FAQ: reports go "to our team of moderators for review" |
Telegram promotion services of the outreach kind depend on a list of people who never asked, and the list comes from scraping members out of other groups. Telegram's Terms of Service say the company "prohibits data scraping as part of its Content Licensing and AI Scraping Terms".
The report-campaign offer rests on the idea that complaint volume removes a channel. The guide to why mass report bots fail at what they are sold for sets out what Telegram's moderators review instead.
US law reaches the package sellers and their buyers. Under 16 CFR 465.8, in effect since 21 October 2024, it is unlawful to sell fake indicators of social media influence, or to "Purchase or procure" them for a commercial purpose when the buyer knew or should have known they were fake. The rule's definitions list followers, subscribers and views.
Three questions sort an offer quickly. Where will the link appear? Whose account does the sending? Will the per-link join numbers be shared? A seller who cannot answer the first two is selling one of the last three rows.
What Telegram does not publish about promotion
Telegram documents the tools and withholds the weights. The pages read for this guide give the 200 direct adds, the 1000-subscriber floor for ad placement, the 160-character ad length and the featuring conditions for Mini Apps. None of them says how search orders results, how many reports limit an account, or how long an ad review takes.
- Search ranking. The Channels FAQ says public channels can be found in search. No page says what decides the order.
- Similar Channels. One sentence about "similarities in their subscriber bases" is the whole published method.
- The report threshold. The Spam FAQ describes moderators reviewing reports and gives no count.
- Ad review time. The Ad Platform Terms say Telegram "shall not be bound by any time frames in conducting a review".
- Web indexing. Nothing is published about how search engines treat t.me pages.
- Conversion rates. One third-party guide returned for these searches quotes a 34% conversion rate for giveaways. The figure has no Telegram source, and Telegram publishes no join rate for any route.
Sendhaus, an independent Telegram messaging and automation provider, is not affiliated with Telegram and handles telegram promotion only in the opt-in forms described on this page.
Frequently asked questions
What is Telegram promotion?
Telegram promotion is any activity that brings new people to a channel, group or bot: a link placed where an audience already is, a sponsored message, a search listing or a recommendation from another chat. Telegram documents the free routes and one paid route of its own, Telegram Ads. Its Channels FAQ rules out sending links to strangers.
How can I promote my Telegram channel for free?
Give the channel a public username so it appears in Telegram search, add the first 200 subscribers from people who expect it, and place a separate invite link on each property you already control. Shared folders and mention swaps with related channels are free as well. Telegram charges nothing for a username, a link or a folder.
Can I pay Telegram to promote my channel?
Yes, through Telegram Ads. A sponsored message carries up to 160 characters and a link to a channel or bot, and it is displayed in public channels with 1000+ subscribers. The getting-started guide states a minimum CPM of 0.1 Toncoin. Paid posts bought from other channels' admins are, in Telegram's words, not part of its advertisement platform.
Are Telegram promotion groups worth joining?
Rarely. A promotion group is free to join, so it fills with people who came to post their own links, and few of them read anyone else's. Telegram's Spam FAQ says anyone who sends spam or unsolicited advertisements in groups will be limited. A permitted post in one topic group whose admin allows adverts reaches actual readers.
Can a bot promote my Telegram channel?
A bot can publish and schedule posts in a channel where it is an admin, and it can message people who have started it. A bot cannot contact strangers: Telegram's bot introduction says bots can't start conversations with users. Bots that reward people for subscribing fall under the Bot Developer Terms' ban on social growth manipulation.
Is crypto promotion allowed on Telegram?
Channels and groups about crypto are not barred by the Terms of Service read for this guide. Two documents add limits. The Bot Developer Terms prohibit Mini Apps from promoting cryptoassets that are not based on TON, and ad guideline 5.7 bars get-rich-quick offers and offers of investment with guaranteed return in Telegram Ads.
