Telegram referral links, traced from the first tap to the payout

By 16 min read

Short answer. A telegram referral link is a bot or mini app address with a tag on the end, such as t.me/yourbot?start=abc123. The bot reads the tag when someone taps Start and credits whoever owns it. In Telegram's official affiliate programs, money moves only when the referred person later spends Stars in that mini app, so starts from referral groups, panels or clicker bots earn nothing.

Most pages about referral telegram tactics list places to post a link. This guide does something different: it follows one telegram referral link through every stage Telegram documents, from the tap to the payout, and shows at which stage each shortcut fails. Groups, SMM panels, generators and clicker bots all break somewhere specific, and Telegram's own pages say where.

Every rule quoted below was read on 23 October 2026 from Telegram's affiliate-program tour, the affiliate program terms, the deep-link documentation and the bot features page. Where Telegram publishes nothing, the guide says so instead of filling the gap with a vendor's number.

What a telegram referral link is made of

A telegram referral link has two parts: the bot's public address and a start parameter that identifies the referrer. Telegram's bot features page allows "A-Z, a-z, 0-9, _ and -" in that parameter and caps it at 64 characters. When someone taps Start, the bot receives the text /start followed by the parameter, and its own code decides what the parameter means.

Telegram gives its own example: a link ending in ?start=airplane makes the bot receive "/start airplane". A referral bot puts a user ID or a short code where "airplane" sits. Telegram's deep-link documentation adds a client detail that matters for referrals: if the bot exists, the text bar is replaced with a Start button "even if the user has already started the bot". Tapping a second referral link therefore sends a second /start, and only the bot's own rules decide whether the second referrer wins.

The same mechanism works in groups. A ?startgroup= link asks the user to choose a group, adds the bot there, and the bot receives "/start@your_bot" plus the parameter. A telegram group referral bot uses a different tool again: invite links created per member, which the next sections cover.

Two referral systems that share one link shape

Two different systems sit behind telegram referral links. In the first, a bot's developer runs a homemade scheme: points, balances or prizes counted in the bot's own database. In the second, Telegram itself runs an affiliate program for mini apps that sell digital goods for Stars, and pays a commission share from real purchases. The link looks almost the same; the payout rules do not.

Telegram's deep-link page describes the official form as either t.me/<bot>?ref=<referrer> or a start link with a prefix taken from a client configuration value. The prefix is "mandatory for the second variants of referral links, to distinguish them from bot links." When such a link is opened, the app must pass the referrer to Telegram's servers every time, even if the bot was cached. A homemade scheme has no such server-side step: the only record is whatever the bot stores.

That difference decides who can be cheated. In a homemade scheme the developer sets the rules and can change or cancel the balance at will. In Telegram's program the affiliate terms bind both sides, and Telegram holds the money. Anyone offering a telegram referral service should be able to say which of the two systems they are feeding.

One telegram referral traced through five stages

A telegram referral passes through five stages: the link is shared, a person taps it, the bot or Telegram records the referrer, the person does something that qualifies, and the reward is paid. A shortcut that inflates stage two does nothing for stages four and five. Following one referral through all five shows exactly where groups, panels and bots stop counting.

  1. Share

The link appears somewhere a person can tap it: a channel post, a chat, a bio. Telegram's affiliate tour says to "share your link responsibly" and warns that sending it to strangers or posting it in public groups "could lead to temporary limitations on your account."

  2. Tap

The person opens the link and presses Start, or launches the mini app. For the official program, only "any Telegram user who starts the mini app for the first time after following a referral link" counts, per the developer page on referrals.

  3. Record

A homemade bot writes the start parameter to its database. In the official program, the referrer is sent to Telegram through contacts.resolveUsername, which can return STARREF_EXPIRED when the link no longer works.

  4. Qualify

In the official program, the qualifying event is a purchase: commission is paid "for every mini app transaction made by users they refer." In a homemade scheme the bot decides; many count the start alone, which is why they attract fake starts.

  5. Pay

Official commissions land in Stars on the balance the affiliate chose. Telegram's affiliate terms lock them for 21 days, can debit refunds, and let Telegram "rescind, withhold, or reclaim" commissions when the terms are broken.

Read against those stages, most "get referrals fast" advice targets stage two. A burst of taps from a referral exchange or a panel raises the start count, and a homemade bot may even credit it. A mini app paying through Telegram's program credits nothing until stage four, and stage five can take the credit back.

How the telegram referral program pays

The official telegram referral program lets a mini app's owner offer a share of Star revenue to anyone who brings in buyers. Owners set a commission rate and a period; affiliates join from Settings, get a unique link and earn on qualifying purchases by referred users for that period. Telegram's tour says only the account that owns the mini app can "create, modify or terminate" the program.

Two rules protect affiliates. First, the tour states the rate and period can only be raised; lowering them means ending the program and starting a new one. Second, commissions on users already referred continue until each user's period ends, even after the program is terminated, and links are revoked about 24 hours after a manual termination. The developer page adds that the period can be left open, meaning "no expiration date".

When joining, an affiliate chooses which balance collects the Stars: a personal account, a channel they own, or a mini app they develop. That choice is how a channel owner can earn by recommending a mini app to subscribers who already read the channel. Telegram's affiliate terms, section 3.2, list what gets commissions withheld, including "initiating private chats with random users for the sole purpose of sharing your link" and "artificially inflating engagement or interaction metrics."

Start parameter 64 Maximum characters, per Telegram's bot features page.
Commission hold 21 days Affiliate Stars locked before use, per Telegram's affiliate program terms.
Link revoke delay ~24 h After a creator ends a program, per the affiliate programs tour.

Rates vary by program. Telegram's sample client configuration lists a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 800 per mille, that is 0.1% to 80%, but the documentation labels these as sample values; the live limits are server-side. Treat any telegram referral smm vendor quoting "guaranteed 50% commissions" as describing a homemade bot, because in the official program the creator sets the rate, not the affiliate or a reseller.

Is there a telegram referral code?

Telegram publishes no telegram referral code for signing up or for discounts on Premium. Codes that circulate under that name are one of three things: the start parameter of a particular bot, the slug of an affiliate link, or a Premium gift code that someone bought for another person. None of them pays the person who shares it unless the bot or program behind it says so.

This matters because "free telegram referral" searches often lead to posts promising Premium or Stars for entering a code. Telegram's own reward route for sharing is the affiliate program above, and its payouts depend on purchases. A page asking for a phone number, login code or password in exchange for a referral reward is not a referral scheme. Telegram's bot developer terms list "Asking users for their Telegram password or OTP" among forbidden uses.

Telegram referral groups: what happens at stage two

A telegram referral group is a chat where members post their links and promise to tap each other's. The exchange produces starts, and nothing else: members tap to earn the next swap, not because they want the product. Under Telegram's affiliate program those starts pay nothing unless the members buy, and the tour warns that posting referral links in public groups can bring temporary account limitations.

Searches such as "telegram referral group link", "referral group telegram" and even "referral group/telegram" lead to directories of these chats. Their feeds look the same: a wall of bot links, each followed by "done, now yours". Admins who allow that become a target for spam reports, and group owners usually ban members who post links outside a fixed thread. Our guide to spam tools and how Telegram stops them shows how those reports turn into limits.

Posting the same link into dozens of telegram referral groups also runs into rate limits. Telegram's Bot FAQ advises not to send more than 20 messages per minute to the same group, and user accounts that post too quickly receive the waits explained in what each flood wait error means. Crypto airdrop chats are the largest of these groups, and they bring their own problems, covered in what Telegram documents about crypto groups and bots.

When a telegram group for referral works

A telegram group for referral works when the group belongs to you and the members already want the thing being referred. A customer community that shares a mini app's affiliate link with friends is a real referral loop. The difference is who taps: people who chose your product, rather than members paid in reciprocal taps.

To share referral link telegram group members will act on, pin one post with the link and the reason to use it, keep link posts out of general chat, and let the bot do the tracking. Telegram's spam FAQ says users "do mind getting unsolicited advertisements, links", so a link pinned in your own group passes that test where a link dropped into a stranger's group fails it.

How a telegram group referral bot tracks members

A telegram group referral bot counts who brought whom into a group by creating one invite link per member. The Bot API's createChatInviteLink takes a private name for the link and an optional member limit, and the join update a bot receives includes the invite link the new member used. The bot then credits the member whose link was used.

That tracking only counts real joins, so a telegram group referral bot cannot be gamed by tapping alone, but it can be gamed by people adding second accounts. Telegram allows several accounts per person, explained in the rules for running multiple accounts, which is why serious referral bots pay on an action after the join rather than on the join itself. Bots that add people to groups directly are a different tool with tighter limits, set out in what an invite member bot can add.

Panels and services that sell referrals

A telegram referral panel, usually sold as a telegram referral smm panel, takes a bot link and a quantity and returns starts from accounts the panel controls. The starts arrive at stage two. They do not buy anything, so in Telegram's affiliate program they earn no commission, and section 3.2 of the affiliate terms names "artificially inflating engagement or interaction metrics" as grounds to withhold commissions.

People who search "buy referrals telegram" usually want to win a homemade bot's leaderboard or cash out a balance it promised. Those bots can reverse credits at will, and a bot developer who notices hundreds of starts from new accounts in one hour has every reason to. Telegram's API terms are blunter about the tool side: "If you use the Telegram API for flooding, spamming, faking subscriber and view counters of channels, you will be banned forever."

The same panels sell subscribers and views; our review of what SMM panels deliver and what Telegram says covers those products line by line. A telegram bot referral smm panel listing is the same inventory pointed at a bot link. The telegram bot referral smm offer differs only in the counter it inflates.

Fake starts cost the buyer, not just the bot. Telegram's bot developer terms list "Social growth manipulation" as a forbidden use case, and its content creator reward terms count "simulated or otherwise non-genuine activity, regardless of whether operated or solicited by you" as invalid. A telegram referral service that delivers starts puts both the bot and the buyer inside those clauses.

Free generators, clicker bots and unlimited tricks

A free telegram referral generator, a referral clicker bot or an unlimited referral trick all promise the same thing: referrals without people. Each one produces starts from accounts or sessions that never buy, so they fail at stage four of an official program. Most are also a way to collect the login of whoever runs them.

The phrase "referral link clicker bot telegram reddit" shows where people look for these tools, and threads that discuss them tend to report the same outcome: the bot owner spots the pattern and zeroes the balance. A clicker needs Telegram accounts to press Start, so it either asks for your own session, which it then controls, or uses a pool of bought accounts. Claims sold the same way as mass report bots and what they actually do deserve the same doubt.

The "unlimited referral trick telegram" videos usually show one of three things: deleting and re-adding an account, logging in on a second device, or a modified client. Each produces repeated starts from one person. A bot that records the user ID rather than the session sees the same ID twice. Telegram's affiliate developer page counts only users who start the mini app "for the first time", so the official program ignores repeats by design.

A free referral for telegram does exist in one honest sense: asking someone who would use the bot anyway. Searches for "telegram free referral", "free referral telegram", "telegram referral free" and "free telegram referral" mostly land on swap groups, but the free route that survives all five stages is a recommendation to a person who wanted the product.

How to get referrals on Telegram that survive every stage

Referrals on Telegram that survive all five stages come from people who already know you: your channel's subscribers, your group's members, your bot's existing users and your own contacts. Each of those can tap, start, qualify and stay. Paid placement and Telegram Ads can widen that audience, but the link still needs a reason to be used beyond the reward.

  1. Start with your own audience

Post the link in your channel or pinned group message with a plain reason to use it. A channel with real readers turns into the referral base that growing channel subscribers describes.

  2. Give each member a link inside the bot

A bot command such as /invite can return a personal start link per user, so existing users share it with friends. A greeting can carry it too, the way Telegram's auto-reply options let a business account answer first messages.

  3. Share one to one, with people who asked

Sending your link to a friend who asked about the product is normal use; the steps are in how to send a message on Telegram. Sending it to lists of strangers is what the affiliate terms forbid.

  4. Pay for reach, not for starts

Telegram Ads place a sponsored message in public channels with a budget you control; what Telegram publishes about ad costs covers the minimums, and what an ads agency sells explains the reseller route.

  5. Measure qualified referrals

Count purchases or retained users per link, not starts. Telegram's channel statistics include a new-followers-by-source graph, explained in Telegram channel analytics.

How to get referrals for telegram bot fast, then, has an honest answer: put the link in front of the audience you already have on day one, and give each existing user a personal link the same day. That is how to get telegram bot referral numbers that a bot owner or Telegram will actually pay on. The route that looks faster, buying or swapping starts, gets reversed at stage five.

How to get referrals on Telegram also rules some tools out. Mass DM software that sends a referral link to scraped usernames meets every warning above at once; what Telegram documents about mass DMs explains the limits, and message sender tools, sorted by what signs in shows which of them run on a user account. A bot cannot start the conversation either: Telegram's developer introduction says "Bots can't start conversations with users."

Anyone who wants to get referral for telegram bot launches without building the referral logic can use our bot development work, which builds per-user links and qualified-referral tracking into the bot. Channel-side campaigns that feed a referral program run through our channel growth service. Both work only with audiences that opted in.

One layer sits above Telegram's own rules. In the European Union, Article 13 of Directive 2002/58/EC requires prior consent for unsolicited direct marketing by electronic messages, and a referral link with a commercial reward attached is marketing under that rule. Telegram's affiliate terms also make affiliates "solely responsible" for disclosure, so a post recommending a mini app should say that the link pays a commission.

What Telegram does not publish about referrals

Telegram does not publish how many referral links an account can share before limits apply, what "temporary limitations" means in time, or how it detects inflated referrals. It also publishes no typical commission rate, no live minimum or maximum outside the sample configuration, and no figures on how many affiliates its program has.

  • Limitation threshold. The tour says posting in public groups "could lead to temporary limitations". No number of posts or reports is given.
  • Detection rules. The affiliate terms list prohibited activities but not how Telegram finds them, and they contain no appeal process for withheld commissions.
  • Homemade bots. Points, balances and prizes in a bot's own scheme are outside Telegram's documentation entirely. Only that bot's developer decides whether they are paid.
  • Commission rates. The 1 to 800 per mille range comes from a sample configuration, labelled as such by Telegram.

Figures such as "safe" link shares per day, or a commission percentage that is "standard on Telegram", come from vendors and forums. None appears in Telegram's documentation as of 23 October 2026. The full list of what Sendhaus offers is on the services page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a telegram referral link?

It is a link to a bot or mini app with a referrer tag on the end, such as t.me/bot?start=code. When someone taps Start, the bot receives the tag and credits its owner. In Telegram's official affiliate programs the tag is recorded by Telegram and pays only on later purchases.

How does the official Telegram referral program pay?

A mini app owner sets a commission rate and period. Affiliates earn that share of Stars on purchases made by users who first started the mini app through their link. Commissions are locked for 21 days and can be withheld if the affiliate terms are broken.

Do telegram referral groups work?

They produce taps, not buyers. Members start each other's bots to earn swaps, so programs that pay on purchases credit nothing. Telegram's tour also warns that posting referral links in public groups can lead to temporary limitations on the account.

Can I buy referrals for a Telegram bot?

Panels sell starts from accounts they control. Those starts make no purchases, so Telegram's affiliate program pays nothing for them, and its terms let Telegram withhold commissions for artificially inflated engagement. Homemade bots can also reverse credits that look fake.

Is there a referral code to join Telegram?

No. Telegram publishes no referral code for signing up or for Premium discounts. Codes shared under that name are a specific bot's start parameter, an affiliate link slug or a Premium gift code, and they pay only if the bot or program behind them says so.

Are referral clicker bots safe to use?

They create starts without real users, which bot owners can detect and reverse. Many ask for your Telegram session, which hands control of the account to the tool. Telegram's bot terms list asking for a password or login code as a forbidden use.
