Telegram channel listing: what each directory actually sells

By 17 min read

Short answer. A Telegram channel listing is an entry for a public channel, group or bot on a third-party site. Telegram runs no directory of its own and accepts no submissions. Its own discovery comes from global search, the Posts tab and Similar Channels, which Telegram says are picked by subscriber-base overlap. Every Telegram directory is independent, and each one sells something: ad placements, analytics, or paid boosts in its own ranking.

Searches for a telegram directory return two kinds of page. One kind is the directory itself: a grid of channel cards, a submit button and categories. The other is a listicle naming the same handful of sites. None of the results read on 20 October 2026 separates what Telegram ranks from what a directory ranks, quotes a single submission rule from the directory's own form, or says what the directory charges. This guide does those three things and states the source beside each figure.

One distinction carries through the whole page. A Telegram channel listing on an outside site and a place in Telegram's own search are different systems with different owners. The first is bought, submitted or scraped. Telegram's documentation describes the second, and nobody outside Telegram can sell it. Telegram pages were read on 20 October 2026, in line with how these guides are sourced.

What a Telegram channel listing is, and what Telegram runs itself

A Telegram channel listing is a record on a site Telegram does not operate: the channel name, its t.me link, a description, a category and usually a subscriber count. Telegram itself keeps no public Telegram channel directory and has no form for submitting one. What Telegram runs is discovery inside the app: search tabs, a recommendation list and an app store for Mini Apps.

The difference matters because the two systems answer to different owners. A Telegram channel directory decides its own order, often by payment, so a Telegram channel listing there is only as visible as its owner pays for. Telegram's search and Similar Channels decide theirs by rules Telegram partly documents. Telegram's API page on similar channels says the list is "selected based on similarities in their subscriber bases", which is a signal no outside listing can change.

Telegram's Channels tour page says public channels "can be seen on the Web without a Telegram account and are indexed by search engines". That sentence covers a lot of what people expect a Telegram channel listing to do. A public channel already has a web page at t.me/<username>, and checked on 14 October 2026, that page carried no robots tag blocking indexing.

Telegram search tool and community search inside the app

The Telegram search tool most readers use first is the one inside the app. Global search has separate tabs. According to Telegram's API documentation, searching in the Channels tab calls messages.searchGlobal with a broadcasts-only flag and returns one row per channel. A Telegram community search for groups runs through the Chats tab. Both cover public chats only.

On 31 July 2025 Telegram added a Posts tab. The announcement says search "now has a 'Posts' tab, where you can see relevant results from public channels", and that post search "is initially available to Telegram Premium users". The API page adds the price: "Global post searches are paid: Premium users get a free amount of searches, after which each search costs a certain amount of stars." A client checks the daily free slots with channels.checkSearchPostsFlood before each search.

That changes what a Telegram directory search competes with. A reader looking for posts on a topic can now search the text of public channels inside Telegram, not only channel names. A channel whose posts name its subject in plain words can turn up there. A channel known only by a clever username cannot. No directory reproduces that inside Telegram.

Similar Channels is the third native surface. Telegram's 30 November 2023 announcement says that when a user joins a channel, "you'll now see a list of similar public channels", and "Only public channels appear in the list". The API page names three places the list appears: a popup after joining, a Similar Channels tab in the channel profile, and a global section in the Channels tab of search. Telegram's client configuration caps the list with recommended_channels_limit_default and a higher Premium value; the sample values on that page read 10 and 100 on 14 October 2026.

How to rank a Telegram channel in search

Telegram does not publish its search ranking factors, so any list claiming to explain how to rank telegram channel in search is a guess unless it names its evidence. What Telegram does document is narrower: search matches usernames and names, the Posts tab matches public post text, and Similar Channels follows shared subscribers. A channel can act on those three inputs and nothing else, and no Telegram channel directory can act on them for it.

The username is the first input. Telegram's FAQ says "Others can use Global Search and find you by your username", and the API method contacts.search "Returns users found by username substring". A username that contains the term people type gives search something to match. Usernames are scarce, too: the configuration key channels_public_limit_default limits how many public channels one account can hold, with sample values of 10 without Premium and 20 with it.

The title and description are the second input, and they double as the web snippet. The t.me preview page uses the channel description as its og:description, so the same 1–2 sentences appear in Telegram, in link previews and in web results. Post text is the third input, now that the Posts tab searches it. Similar Channels placement is the only one that cannot be written: it follows who joins.

Telegram ranking in the broad sense also takes in third-party leaderboards that sort channels by subscribers or views. Those rankings belong to the site that computes them. A high place on one changes nothing in Telegram's own search. The channel numbers those sites read come from Telegram's public counters, which our guide to reading channel statistics and analytics tools takes apart field by field.

  1. Make the channel public. Telegram's Channels tour says new channels "start as private"; a private channel has no username and cannot be listed or searched.
  2. Choose a username a searcher would type. Search matches by substring, so the subject word belongs in it.
  3. Write the description as a search snippet. It is reused as the web preview text.
  4. Post in full sentences that name the subject. The Posts tab searches post text in public channels.
  5. Earn subscribers who also follow related channels. That overlap is what Similar Channels reads.

Telegram directory websites compared by what they sell

Telegram directory websites differ mainly in how they make money, and that decides how they order listings. Some sell analytics and ad research, some sell ad placements inside listed channels, and some sell visibility in their own grid. Reading the submission form shows which kind a site is before a Telegram channel listing goes in. The table records what each form or page said on 20 October 2026.

Telegram directory websites checked on 20 October 2026: what the form asks and what the site sells
SiteWhat the submit form asksEntry rules statedWhat it sells
TGStat (tgstat.com)Channel link or @username, country, content language, categoryNone stated on the formAnalytics, ratings, post search, monitoring
Telega.io catalogAvatar, name, link, type, language, topic, description, prices per ad format, subscriber sources1000+ subscribers, 3 months since first post, no political contentAd placements in listed channels
Telekit (telekit.link)Group, channel or bot link via its add pageNot stated on the home pageListing boosts, points, a channel marketplace
tgdr.ioAccount sign-up, then submitNot stated on the home pageListing only; site describes itself as a directory

TGStat calls itself a "Telegram channels and groups catalog", and its add page says: "If you haven't found your channel in the site, kindly use the form to add it." Its category list includes "Darknet" and "Adult" beside "Education" and "News and media". A TGStat Telegram channel catalog entry is closer to an index card than an endorsement, and a channel listed there sits in the same database as everything else.

Searches typed in reverse order, such as "directory telegram", "catalog telegram" or "catalogue telegram", return the same handful of sites, often in non-English versions. The pattern is that the more a site asks, the more it sells. A Telegram catalogue form that wants ad prices is a marketplace. A form that wants only a link is a crawler with a front door. Neither moves a channel inside Telegram's own search, and both should be judged by whether their audience is the one the channel wants.

Telekit as a Telegram directory: points, boosts and "rank"

Telekit is a link directory at telekit.link whose page title, read on 20 October 2026, promised "30K+ Active Groups & Channels". The rank a listing shows there is bought. The page marks top entries "Rank #1 Boosted", offers "Boost Listing" on each card, and invites visitors to "collect free points every minute to boost your listings". Searches for the best telegram group directory telekit should read that order as paid.

Several features sit beside the listings. A "Sell Your Channel or Bot" section offers to list "your Telegram channel, group or bot for sale" with "Full escrow protection". Each card carries an "Est. Directory Value" in dollars and a "Value Potential Index" percentage, numbers the site computes itself. Telekit publishes no method for either. Anyone comparing a telegram channel directory telekit result with a TGStat Telegram channel listing is comparing a points economy with an analytics index.

Buying or selling a channel moves an asset Telegram ties to an account. Telegram publishes no transfer process for third-party sales. The risks of that trade sit in our guide to accounts for sale versus running several accounts. A telekit telegram directory entry is free to create. Visibility in its grid costs points, and the points come from surfing and referrals.

Telegram catalogs that are ad marketplaces

Many Telegram catalogs exist to sell advertising inside the channels they list. Telega.io is the clearest documented Telegram catalog of this kind. Its guide to adding a channel to the catalog sets entry rules, a 48-hour moderation step and a price list for post formats. A Telegram channel listing in a catalog of this kind offers the channel as ad inventory, not only asking for it to be found.

The Telega.io rules, from its own guide: the channel "should have no less than 1000 subscribers", should be "at least 3 months old from the date of its first publication", its audience should not show "cheat subscribers, views, or other unnatural activities", and it "should not contain any political materials". After submission "the channel will go through a 48-hour moderation process". A rejected channel "can submit a new application for moderation after 30 days".

The form asks for prices in five formats, from "1/24: 1 hour in the top and 24 hours in the feed" to a native integration. That is why these Telegram catalogues care about subscriber quality: buyers pay per placement and complain when views do not match. Claims, the guide says, are "reviewed by the moderator of the service within 72 hours", and repeated substantiated claims can mean "exclusion from the catalog". A channel padded with bought followers fails exactly here, which our breakdown of real versus fake subscriber packages explains with Telegram's own wording.

Telegram runs its own ad system beside these private exchanges. Sponsored messages appear in public channels with 1000+ subscribers, and the channel owner receives a share. Telegram's ToS says admins may also publish third-party sponsorships and that "These ads are not part of the Telegram advertisement platform". How the two compare on cost and control is in our guide to how Telegram Ads work. Telegram channel catalogs that sell posts are the second, private route.

Several other Telegram channels catalogue sites and Telegram channels directory pages follow the same pattern without a public rules page. Before listing, find the page that says who buys from the catalog. If no buyer is named, the listing is a free entry in someone else's database, which may still be worth having.

A Telegram group directory and a Telegram bots directory

A Telegram group directory lists public supergroups, which differ from channels in one way that matters for listing: members talk. A link in a Telegram groups directory sends strangers into a conversation, not a feed. Telegram's API page on invites says "Only supergroups and channels may have a public usernames", so a basic group cannot be listed by username at all.

Group owners using telegram group directory websites should expect the arrivals a public link brings. Telegram's Spam FAQ says "Moderators are more lenient when it comes to messages in groups", and that group admins "can also report users who post spam in their groups". Telegram's own Aggressive Anti-Spam setting applies to groups above 200 members. Tools and settings for the problem are in our guide to spam bots and how to stop them.

A Telegram bots directory has a native competitor. Telegram documents a "Similar bots" tab in a bot's profile, filled by bots.getBotRecommendations, and a Mini App Store built on bots.getPopularAppBots, where the Apps tab shows names and monthly-active-user counters. Telegram's bot features page lists what featuring needs: a Main Mini App, media demos and Stars payments. An outside directory adds a web page; the in-app store adds placement inside Telegram.

Bots carry one limit that a listing cannot fix. Telegram's introduction for developers says "Bots can't start conversations with users. A user must either add them to a group or send them a message first." A listing helps a person find the bot and press Start. Everything a bot sends afterwards goes to people who opened it, which is the model behind our guide to every Telegram auto reply option.

Getting listed: what to fix before submitting

Getting into a Telegram channels directory takes minutes; being worth clicking takes the preparation Telegram's own ad rules already describe. Telegram's ad guidelines require promoted channels to "have both a profile image and a complete text in their 'about' or 'description' section", and "at least one post published within the two weeks prior to review". Those two rules make a fair bar for any listing.

  1. Profile image and description. The same text feeds the t.me preview and most directory cards, which copy it automatically.
  2. A recent post. A directory visitor who finds the last post months old leaves; Telegram's ad review uses a two-week window for the same reason.
  3. A named invite link per directory. Telegram's Bot API lets an invite link carry a name of "0-32 characters", so joins from each listing can be counted.
  4. The right category and language. TGStat's form asks for both; a wrong one buries the entry.
  5. A clear rule on what the channel sends. Readers who arrive from a directory chose to join; keep to that.

The named-link step is the one most listing guides skip. Without a separate link per Telegram channel listing there is no way to tell which listing produced joins, and the channel statistics screen will lump them under links. Joins per link show in the invite-link menu. A Telegram channel directory entry that produces no joins in a month can be dropped without guessing.

After listing, the channel's job is the same as before: post things subscribers asked for. Telegram channels are one-way. Readers who want to reach the owner need a linked discussion group or a contact handle. Our guide to DMs, groups and channels covers who can write to whom. For posting to many readers at once, see the four broadcast routes and their published limits.

What a public listing exposes a channel to

A public Telegram channel listing exposes the channel's link, its admins' contact handles and, for groups, its member list to anyone who reads directories, including people who harvest them. Most Telegram catalogs are themselves built by collecting public links. A Telegram channels directory entry makes a channel easier to find for scrapers and spam operators as well as for readers.

The usual pattern runs like this. A list of public groups is gathered from directories, member handles are collected, and the handles receive unsolicited messages. Telegram's Spam FAQ answers the last step directly: "people do mind getting unsolicited advertisements, links, invite links to groups or channels". The mechanics and the consequences are set out in our guides to cold DM scripts and automation rules and DM marketing and the affiliate program.

Directories are also where list sellers advertise. Offers to deliver a message to every member of a set of listed groups are bulk cold outreach under another name. What such services cost, and what Telegram does about them, is in our comparison of what a mass messaging service costs and our guide to the six supported routes for bulk messages.

Category matters for risk as well. Crypto and trading channels fill several of the directories checked here; one top-boosted card on 20 October 2026 offered free trading signals. Telegram's bot developer terms limit Mini Apps to TON-based cryptoassets, and its ad guidelines bar "investment with guaranteed return". Those rules, and what Telegram documents about crypto groups, are in our guide to crypto groups and bots.

What Telegram does not publish about discovery

Telegram publishes the shape of its discovery features but not their ranking rules. There is no published list of search ranking factors, no stated weight for usernames, titles or descriptions, and no explanation of how Similar Channels chooses among overlapping channels beyond "similarities in their subscriber bases". There is no Telegram-approved Telegram channel directory, and no Telegram badge for a Telegram channel listing.

  • Search ranking. The API pages say which method each tab calls, not how results are ordered.
  • Similar Channels thresholds. Not published: how much overlap is needed, or how often the list refreshes.
  • Posts tab coverage. The announcement says "relevant results from public channels"; how far back it reaches is not stated.
  • Directory traffic. No Telegram channel directory checked here publishes joins per listing or click-through to Telegram.
  • Directory counts. Telekit's "30K+" and any catalog total are the site's own numbers, not audited.

A page that gives a ranking formula for Telegram search, or promises a top spot, is inventing one. Sendhaus works from what Telegram has written down and says where that stops; how Sendhaus works and what it declines covers the work we turn down for the same reason.

When a Telegram directory listing does not work

A Telegram directory listing does not work for private channels, which have no username and cannot be listed or searched. Listing also fails when the channel's readers are not people who browse directories. Most directory traffic is general-interest. A niche business channel usually gets more from its own website, newsletter and customers than from a grid of crypto and entertainment cards.

  • Private or invite-only channels. Listing would mean publishing the invite link, which defeats the point.
  • Regulated topics. Finance, health and gambling channels share directory grids with offers they do not want to be seen beside.
  • Audiences off Telegram. If the readers are not on Telegram yet, no catalog reaches them.
  • Channels below a catalog's floor. Telega.io's 1000-subscriber and three-month rules exclude new channels.
  • Expecting a listing to replace content. Similar Channels follows subscribers, and subscribers follow posts.

For a channel that fits, a Telegram channel listing is a short job. Make it public, name it so search can match it, list it where its readers browse, use a named link for each directory, and measure. A growth plan built on Telegram's documented routes starts with people who opted in and goes only as far as those routes go.

Frequently asked questions

Does Telegram have an official channel directory?

No. Telegram runs no directory and takes no submissions. Discovery inside Telegram comes from global search, the Posts tab for public post text, and Similar Channels, which Telegram says are selected by similarities in subscriber bases. Every site calling itself a Telegram directory is a third party with no link to Telegram.

How do I get my channel listed in a Telegram directory?

Make the channel public, then use the directory's add form. TGStat asks for the link or @username, country, content language and category. Telega.io also wants ad prices and requires 1000 subscribers and three months since the first post. Give each directory its own named invite link so joins can be counted.

Is Telekit a good Telegram group directory?

Telekit lists groups, channels and bots, but its ranking is bought. On 20 October 2026 its cards showed "Rank #1 Boosted" and "Boost Listing", and points for boosting could be earned by surfing. It also runs a marketplace for selling channels. Treat its order as advertising, not as a quality ranking.

How do I rank a Telegram channel in search?

Telegram publishes no ranking factors. What it documents: search matches usernames by substring, the Posts tab searches public post text, and Similar Channels follows subscriber overlap. So use a username with the subject word, a description that works as a snippet, posts that name the subject, and subscribers who chose to join.

Can a private channel be listed?

Not by username. Telegram says new channels start as private, and only public channels and supergroups can have usernames. Listing a private channel means publishing its invite link, after which anyone holding the link can join. Telegram also leaves private channels out of Similar Channels.

Do Telegram catalogs help with Telegram Ads?

Not directly. Telegram Ads runs sponsored messages in public channels with 1000+ subscribers, and the channel owner receives a share. Catalogs such as Telega.io sell separate, private placements in listed channels. Telegram's ToS says such third-party sponsorships are not part of the Telegram advertisement platform.

Is it safe to list a group in a directory?

A public listing makes the group easy to find for readers and for spammers who harvest group lists. Telegram's Spam FAQ says group admins can report users who post spam. Telegram offers Aggressive Anti-Spam for groups above 200 members. Join requests let admins approve each newcomer before they can post.
